So, you’ve decided to take the plunge and are ready to step into the world of travel nursing. As a travel nurse, you have the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of your patients while also live around the world.
Are you wondering what some of the educational requirements are to become a travel nurse? Read on to find out.
First and foremost, you must become a registered nurse (RN). Depending on your specialty, it may be required for some RNs to have a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). Although an associate’s degree in nursing may meet the minimum prerequisite for some positions, a BSN could be very beneficial.
In order to get your license, you will need to pass the NCLEX. The National Council Licensure Examination is a computer-based test that measures knowledge, skills and abilities to determine whether to grant the test taker a nursing license.

To take your travel nurse education a step further, some RNs will go on to obtain a Master’s Degree, making them an MSN. This is typically not an absolute requirement for travel nursing, but it can be advantageous. Additional certifications are also extremely beneficial and could bring opportunity for more work and higher pay.
Another important aspect is the years of practical experience you have. Many employers require at least one year of relevant work experience after you obtain your degree.
Whatever specialty you decide to pursue, education and experience make a difference in any career.
