5 Tips for Staying Healthy as a Nurse

Written by Claudia Garcia | Jul 18, 2018 1:46:48 PM

Staying healthy as a nurse or any other medical professional is extremely important when you have patients depending on you. Luckily, we’ve compiled a list of our top five tips to help keep you healthy on the job.

Fuel your body with nutritious foods

As a nurse in a fast-paced environment, eating healthy can be a challenge. Start the day with a healthy breakfast to feel energized throughout your shift and look for ways to incorporate more protein and fruit and veggies into your diet. Check out these other nutrition tips.

2. When it comes to exercise, think outside the box

Try to fit in exercise wherever you can. Take a walk on your lunch breaks. If you live close to work, walk or bike there. Take the stairs instead of an elevator. Get creative!

Don’t forget about emotional health.

Emotional health is just important as your physical health. Because nurses always put their patients’ needs before their own, it’s important to take the time to boost your emotional health. Develop new hobbies outside of work and set goals for yourself.

Cultivate strong relationships at work

It’s important to develop relationships with those you see every day at work. They will become the people you can rely on and ask for help when you need it.

Get adequate sleep

Although working long shifts and strange hours can take a toll, nurses need to try to get some sleep in. Try using blackout curtains, turning off your phone and not drinking too much caffeine during shifts.
